The Students’ Initiative in Palliative Care (SIP) at MAO College of Arts and Science is a compassionate student-led movement dedicated to promoting awareness, empathy, and volunteerism in the field of palliative care. Rooted in humanitarian values, SIP aims to support individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses through emotional, social, and community-based care.
SIP empowers students to take an active role in addressing the needs of the suffering by engaging with palliative care patients, organizing awareness campaigns, and promoting a culture of compassion both within and beyond the campus.
Through regular training sessions, workshops, and field visits in collaboration with palliative care units and local healthcare organizations, students gain firsthand experience in:
• Providing psycho-social support to patients
• Understanding end-of-life care needs
• Organizing fundraising and community engagement programs
• Creating awareness about pain management and dignity in care
• Promoting volunteerism and youth participation in healthcare support
The SIP unit at MAO College also actively conducts:
• Palliative care awareness campaigns
• Observance of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day
• Interaction with medical professionals and caregivers
• Home visits and community support drives
• Art, music, and cultural events to uplift patients and spread awareness
This initiative not only enriches students’ social responsibility and interpersonal skills but also fosters a deep sense of empathy and civic engagement.
By blending service with learning, SIP continues to inspire the student community to be compassionate change-makers, contributing meaningfully to society and healthcare.
